Spectateur Éternel é uma obra que por um lado nos faz regressar ao clima (luminotécnia, ritmo de montagem etc.) de obras iniciais de Rui Calçada Bastos (não faltando a figuração do próprio autor) por outro, recorre à subtilíssima montagem de um dos fundadores do romantismo[1] figurando um homem que, preso no seu quarto, viaja pelo mundo exterior e interior a partir de estimulos banais de tudo o que o rodeia; finalmente, esse quarto (ou quartos de uma só casa) e a cidade que dele se avista são dominados pela veloz sombra dos aviões partindo ou chegando do mundo. Tudo se passa num espaço insonorizado, a voz que se ouve, lendo o texto no seu original francês, soa como dentro da cabeça do protagonista.

Spectateur Éternel, it brings us back on the one hand to the atmosphere (lighting, editing rhythm, etc.) of earlier works of Rui Calçada Bastos (complete with the presence of the author himself); on the other, it resorts to the most subtle editing of one of the founding texts of romanticism[1] in its depicting of a man locked in his room while travelling in the inner and outer world by responding to the trivial stimuli of his surroundings; finally, that room (or rooms of a single house), and the city that is seen from, is haunted by the swift shadow of departing or arriving airplanes. This takes place in a soundproofed space; the voice that is heard, as it reads the text in the French original, sounds as if it is echoing in the protagonist’s head.
